The Brief

An independent brokerage and investment company arranges an annual staff ski trip. Having organised a ski event themselves once before, our client decided it was time to bring in the experts!  We provided a number of options as well as suggesting they have one of our Event Managers on site to co-ordinate the trip. As it was a self-funded trip we also had to take into account the cost implications of various destinations.

  • 40 delegates for 3 nights split over day rotations (Thurs – Sun and Fri – Mon)
  • Good flight access with several flights per day so we could split the company travel arrangements
  • Skiing for all abilities
  • A nice environment for the non- skiers to enjoy with some activities to take part in
  • Good après ski
  • The event had to be good value for money as it was funded by individuals

The Solution

One of the reasons Courmayeur was chosen was due to its close proximity to Geneva. The group stayed in a 4* hotel. As the group was split over two rotations, two dinner were taken in the hotel by each group and then a large company celebration dinner took place on the Saturday night. Restaurants and pubs had to be within walking distance of the hotel to avoid additional transfers. Courmayeur is a delightful Italian resort offering fantastic food both on and off the mountain which also appealed to this group.

Highlights & Challenges

  • Meeting both sets of groups at the airport as one group was already in the resort
  • Reserving space in a nightclub for such a large group in Courmayeur
  • Sorting out a non-ski programme for non-skiers as Courmayeur is very much about shopping and eating and some activities proposed were deemed expensive.
  • Last minute changes to ski lessons

Feedback

‘Overall we were very happy – it was our biggest ski trip yet and one of the most successful!!! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we managed to get everyone back in one piece with no major injuries (…….just a few hangovers and some sunburn!). Two things to mention, I thought the arrangements prior to the trip went very well – the SEL chart was very clear. We also liked having a guide with us and it saved so much time having the ski passes pre-ordered.’
